Antique 21 1/2" French Lanternier et Cie socket head all original doll

Description

This doll is spectacular and almost all original. She is marked on the back of her head: LIMOGES, FRANCE, 9. She is also marked 9 between her shoulder blades. She was made in France by the Lanternier et Cie company (1855-1924). They were a porcelain manufacturing company but didn't start making doll heads until 1915. They were in the doll making business for only nine years. Being experts in porcelain they made great quality heads  and poured them thicker than many of the French doll heads. Their doll heads are less likely to be found broken.
This doll has her original working brown glass sleep eyes but her head has been stuffed with tissue paper to protect the eyes so for now she doesn't sleep. She has an open mouth with four teeth and pierced ears. She's on her well strung original body that's in it's original finish with very little wear and only a few small chips on her hands. Her all original clothing is incredible. She has a one piece teddy with a buttoned "trap-door" at the bottom, a half slip that's buttoned in three places to the teddy and a machine and hand made all white drop waist lawn dress. The dress is hooked in the back. Her mohair wig (that is pinned to the styrofoam pate), her leather shoes, knee socks and jewelry are replaced. Considering the style of this dolls all original clothing I suspect she was made in the 1920's.
