Description
This is a fully marked incredibly rare doll by Francois Gaultier (1860-1899). She has an open mouth with eight top teeth and eight bottom teeth, that's a total of sixteen original teeth! She is so rare that chances are you will never again have the opportunity to buy a doll like this one. She is marked on the back of her head: F.G. (in scroll), 10. She has a "V" shaped hairline down the right forehead with a single line to the eye and across the nose. That repair is hard to see. There is another more visible repair down the left temple and part way into the cheek, it shows more in the photo than in reality. There is a tiny chip repair on the lower right eyelid. Her repairs are reenforced by the new plaster holding her reset brown glass eyes. Her beautiful face painting is all factory original and not involved in the repairs. Her body is in great condition and mostly original paint. The hands and lower legs have been repainted. The lower right leg looks to be a replacement. The arms are a little loose but she displays nicely. She wears a one piece teddy, a half slip and an antique white lawn dress that's been altered a bit to fit this doll. Her short sleeve jacket and hat are made from antique brocade fabric. Her jacket is pinned with antique jewelry, her earrings are antique red glass beads. Her wig was taken from a different French doll and I don't know if it's human hair. It is simply pinned to the pressed styrofoam pate. A rare and wonderful French doll.
