24” ANTIQUEFRENCH TETE JUMEAU BISQUE DOLL
by EMILE JUMEAU ~ Circa 1895
GORGEOUS VELVET DRESS AND BONNET
RED-STAMP TÊTE JUMEAU HEAD
E JUMEAU STAMPED BODY
We were so lucky to find this beautiful 24” Tete Jumeau Bebe Doll with lovely blue eyes and a pretty open mouth smile! Our sweet doll has her original chunky
Jumeau composition body and a gorgeous handmade dress!
MARKINGS Our gorgeous French Bebe is about 24 inches tall and in Wonderful Restored Condition! She is incised on the back of her neck with
an incised “11” and the Red Stamp “Tete Jumeau”. Her body is stamped either “E or “BEBE JUMEAU.” We think it is an “E” but there may be more lettering.
BACKGROUND
Pierre Jumeau started his doll manufacturing business in Paris in 1842. He was known for his exquisite bisque bebes. His son, Emile Jumeau, took over the family doll business after his father retired in 1878. Emile was also famous for the stunning elegant French dolls still sought by doll collectors worldwide.
HEAD Our beautiful
Tete Jumeau’
s bisque face is very finely made with large dreamy blue replacement glass eyes and heavy dark brown multi-stroke eyebrows. She has finely painted lower eyelashes. Our girl has shaded nostrils, an open mouth with a shaded and outlined smile and four white upper teeth. Her cheeks are gently blushed. Her bisque socket head turns allowing for a multitude of poses making her even more precious! She has pierced ears. We are including some newer pink rose earrings.
Her long brunette wig is old.
The wig is currently tangled but we did not attempt to restyle it. It is not tagged and may be original. She has an old pate which is not attached so we can stuff her head easily for safer shipping.
CLOTHING Our young lady’s antique or vintage frock is just lovely! It was handsewn and is made out of an elegant mahogany velvet fabric. It has a rosy pink collar, a low waist and lots of intricate lace trim. The waistline is accentuated with a lace sash. Our doll also has a full slip,
black stockings and darling tan antique style shoes (marked "Byron Shoes Made in the Netherlands).
A stylish matching velvet bonnet trimmed with lace and flowers sits upon her pretty head and adds more charm to her already lovely appearance. It also helps to keep her long wig in place.
BODY
Our lovely antique French doll has her original realistic chunky French Jumeau composition and wooden body with 10 working joints. Her legs can bend at the hip and the knee. Her arms can bend at the shoulder, elbow and wrist. Jumeau doll’s joints are designed to be very flexible and move easily into position. Her body is marked on the back as mentioned above
.
SIZE
This sweet doll measures a little over 24 inches tall.
CONDITION
Our French Bebe doll is in Very Good Gently Displayed Condition. Her beautiful hand painted face and large warm blue eyes make her even more precious. We did not see any marks, cracks or crazing. Her head has been partially restored. It seems her lovely eyes and white teeth are newer replacements. Her old wig is tousled and could use some styling. Her chunky wood and composition body is original and in good condition. Her arms are loosely strung and her realistic hands have a good deal of paint loss.
The amazing ensemble this doll is wearing is handmade and very lovely! We think the gorgeous handmade French style velvet frock suits her perfectly as does her and fabulous sumptuous bonnet. Her shoes are very tight on her, and we suggest considering leaving them on. This French doll is delightful and displays beautifully!

BUSINESS, SALES & SHIPPING INFORMATION
OWNERSHIP: The Bill N Peg’s Interesting Things eBay store is operated by Bill N Peg’s Interesting Things LLC, a limited liability company chartered in the State of Maryland.
SHIPPING: We are usually able to ship within 1 business day of payment. We ship through the United States Postal Service or FedEx, and we try to offer our customers the most appropriate postage options. We obtain a tracking number for each mailing.
SHIPPING CHARGES: Our basic shipping charge is set to cover postage and shipping materials, plus a small handling charge. In 2019, the US Postal Service began charging based on package size rather than weight in many cases. For large packages, FedEx is sometimes the less costly option. We purchase postal.insurance for more expensive items, and eBay requires Signature Confirmation delivery for items costing 0 or more. In some cases, we will require Signature Confirmation for certain items costing less. We add these costs to the total shipping charge for more expensive listings. If our shipping charge estimate is too high, we refund the appropriate amount to the customer after we have shipped the item and verified the actual cost.
COMBINED SHIPPING: We are happy to offer combined shipping discounts, when there are savings available from shipping multiple items in one box and when that can be safely done. Customers may contact us for combined shipping estimates.
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Bidding from international customers is welcome! We combine shipping, as noted above, for international customers whenever possible and include the savings in our shipping charge on the invoice. We ship using Priority International Mail through the US Postal Service if a package weighs four pounds or more. When it weighs less, we also offer First Class International as an option. Please be aware that Priority International packages can be tracked while still in the United States, and they can be insured. First Class International cannot be insured, and so the customer assumes a risk for this less expensive choice. Also, please be aware that we do not mark items as "gifts" or report lower sales values on customs forms.
Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying.
We are happy to have sold a wide variety of items to our international friends and to have received excellent customer satisfaction feedback from them.
RETURN POLICY: Returns are accepted for refund within a 30-day period of the receipt of the merchandise. We will refund shipping charges and return postage when defects or item characteristics were not noted in the original sales listing. In other cases, the refund covers just the purchase price. A returned item must be received in the same condition as when the item was sent.
Most of our transactions are trouble-free, but we suggest you contact us if a problem does arise so we can mutually try to arrive at a satisfactory solution.
CONTACT US: Our seller ID is bill.peg. Please make all contacts through the eBay message system.
