Description
Central/South American machete or sword. Date estimate is late 19th to early 20th century; Fine quality Sheffield steel with interesting markings - Hunter Sheffield- on one side and - Viva A Republica - with another marking of a Bull and writing on the other. This indicates the blade was manufactured in England and exported to South America (Brazil most probably) and stamped again; Horn grips; Sheath is of fine thick and supple leather but the stitching has opened up. The machete shows signs of age related staining and wear but there is no looseness at all and everything is solid. Blade length is 35.5cm and overall length is 47.5cm
