    Description

Beautiful solid brass antique insurance marker. These markers were used to indicate that payment had been made in advance to a fire company, or that an insurance company would pay the fire company who responded to put out a fire
This Marker is I believe from the fire Company 105 in Brooklyn, NY.  It measures 3" by 2 1/4" and has a small hole at the top.
The Fire Tree Mark origin dates back to Ben Franklin's theory that trees attract lightening and cause fires. It was dangerous to have trees around your house.
This marker practice dates all the. way back to 1784.  I am unsure of the age of this marker.
    Cowboy not included.
