    Description

French 1828 Antique Brass Spectacular Ceremonial Music Lyre Military Band Mace
French 1828 Antique Brass Spectacular Ceremonial Music Lyre for a Military Band that is the topper for either a
Ceremonial Band Mace, Baton for a Military Drum Major or possibly a Band Standard or flag.  This was made in-between the time after Napoleon Bonaparte's defeat but before Napoleon III came into power.  The victorious allies had reinstated the Monarchy in France after Napoleons defeat.  Some background information on this time period is written below.
    The
    French Revolution of 1830
    , also known as the
    July Revolution
    Second French Revolution
    or
    Trois Glorieuses
in French ("Three Glorious [Days]"), led to the overthrow of King Charles X,
the French Bourbon monarch, and the ascent of his cousin Louis Philippe, Duke of Orleans, who himself, after 18 precarious years on the throne, would be overthrown
in 1848. It marked the shift from one constitutional monarchy,
under the restored House of Bourbon, to another, the July Monarchy,
the transition of power from the House of Bourbon to its cadet branch,
    the House of Orleans
and the replacement of the principle of hereditary right by that of popular sovereignty.
As you can tell from the remarkable craftsmanship, this item lives up to the well known and appreciated French quality in both style and elegance and is also part of Music Band History.  It has a little hook on the bottom where citation awards streamers (ribbons) or battle streamers could be hung or even horse tails.  I have never seen another one, so it is extremely rare to boot.  It is 32 cm tall and shows no damage and hardly any real signs of wear most likely as it was only used during a very short time period.
