Description
Rambouillet( the name refers to the French forest in which the French royals traditionally hunted) is an elegant faience pattern featuring the native fauna of France. It was designed in 1955, for the wealthy homeowners who sponsored then-President Rene Coty’s Presidential Hunt. Originally created by artist Jean Bertholle, each piece is handpainted and initialed by a studio artisan, making each an original, unique work of art. Gien Rambouillet is among the premier china patterns in the world. This particular plate appears perfect from the front. There is a minor chip on the bottom, back edge of the plate. There are five chips, also minor, along the ring that supports the plate ( the underside). There are a few small rust-colored stains , also on the reverse. None of these issues are perceptible from the front, all are documented in the photographs and the piece has been priced accordingly.
Gien recommends hand washing these exquisite pieces , and suggests refraining from the use of the microwave.
