    Description

Appears to a brass Plaque authentic and genuine Fire Plaque, from Racine WI, 11" x 8 1/2" and 3/8" thick, weighs over 8 lbs., this is a great collectible and it is mounted on a wood board, see photos for condition, this was purchased at an auction at the Wisconsin state fair in 1991, see attached document of sale proofing it’s the real deal which benefited the local PBS
The original "fire mark" plaques were made and used from the early 1800's was mounted in front of a house that belonged to and paid a volunteer fire department, in the days before cities provided that public service.
The story was that the fire department that this embossed plaque indicated would only fight "subscriber's" fires. This is disputed in many histories. If you have a better story, let me know and maybe I will share it. Email your questions, thank you
