Description
This vintage Japanese haori jacket would have been worn on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day. The retro feel of the patterning suggests it might be from the 1950s or 1960s.We love the vintage feel of this geometric design. The grid lines seem to be painted by hand but the kanji-character-like brushstrokes were applied with a stencil. Look closely to see how the stencil layers were deliberately off-set to create a shadowy or dimensional effect. Some of the elements were "finished" with a light layer of gray shading. Nice bright floral silk lining.
Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath.
All of the stitching is hidden (since it was hand-sewn) so technically these haori jackets are reversible. Sometimes the lining is as pretty as the outer jacket!
We do offer haori himo - the little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find on at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately. Choose one from the Haori Himo section of our store.
